Signing My Life Away

Last year, it was the marriage certificate; yesterday, the paperwork for our new house. (All 4,565,734,390 pages.) What’s next?
We’re really happy and excited to get into our new place. Currently, we’re trying to figure out if we want to finish the house with laminate flooring to match the dining room, kitchen, den, and office; or if we should get new carpet; or if we should just keep the old carpet. Parts of the old carpet are pretty worn, so it would be nice to have it replaced. I have no idea how to install carpet, though it seems like laminate is really easy.
I’m staying away from all Wii and Zelda videos on the internets now. There’s so much out there, I could just watch people play and never play myself (which is the complete opposite of what I want). Just over 10 days ’til it’s mine, all mine! 
Sierra had a breakdown of sorts this morning. Christina picked her up from her bus stop and Sierra was bawling. She’s gonna miss her friends at her old school. She’ll make new ones, I know, but the poor kiddo makes me so sad sometimes. I feel her pain; I know what it’s like to move away from friends and family. It’ll be great in the end though, I know it will. We have a ton of kids in our new neighborhood; she’ll be better off than she thinks.

We have that exact laminate flooring in our bedroom and in our basement. It is high quality stuff, but, it just doesn’t feel solid. It almost feels like you are walking on air at some points. I have a box of the stuff too. You can come check it out and walk on it and see what it looks like and how it goes together.
When we moved to Camas, it was VERY tough on Claire to move away from her friends and school. It is just nice to know that she is now in a place that she will graduate with the kids she starts Kindergarten with next year. Same for you guys too, I am sure.

Dean, I just wanted to let you two know that if you go with carpet, it’s pretty easy to put in. It’s a bit more complex than this, but the general idea is that you get the floor bare beneath then staple down carpet padding. The cheap padding is less than $1 per square yd. and the more expensive is somewhere around $2.50 per square yd. (I haven’t looked at prices since we did it for Takara’s room when Rochelle was pregnant though). After that you put down carpet tac strips which are nasty pieces of wood you hammer into the floor around the edges of the room but the parts that are sticking up have lots and lots of spikes that are angled towards the walls. Finally you put the carpet edges onto these spikes and stretch the carpet so that when you have it all it there’s no “bubbles.” Obviously it’s stretched because you’re hooking to to spikes along [at least] 4 walls. Home Depot sells a DIY kit for putting the carpet in. One warning though, the tool used most is called a knee-kicker. Basically it grips the carpet edges and has a pad that you slam your knee into so the carpet is set as close to the wall as possible. It makes the job infinately easier but if you’re not wearing a knee pad you’ll have a really nasty bruise the next day…if you ARE wearing a knee pad you just won’t be able to feel your knee for a while. Enjoy! (P.S. carpet will help keep the place warmer too, so I’d suggest carpet for common areas and bedrooms and for high traffic areas throw down a couple rugs also, like in the hallways and living room.)
