Blog ~ That Girl Emily
Holly introduced me to an intelligent dramablog about Emily, a 35 year old real estate agent who has recently discovered that her husband, Steven, has been sleeping with her best friend, Laura. Although the blog is a good read, I’m not convinced that it’s genuine.
In her older posts, Laura discusses how she loves Steven and wants to have kids and whatever. That’s nice. Then in another post she says “I remember at one point, we were all laughing so hard that Laura fell off the couch and Steven right on top of her! It was hilarious.” Uhh… duh. That’s totally foreshadowing the inevitable of Steven and Laura getting together, almost as if Emily had planned this blog for that exact purpose. So what does Emily do to get back at her cheating husband? She posts a billboard by his work, of course:
A few hints that make me question Emily’s authenticity:
- I’m not convinced that this billboard is real. It’s funny either way, but it would be funnier if it was real. The building that the billboard is on a street that, as far as I can tell, only construction workers utilize. And what is that “city outdoor” thing?
- For a blog to not allow comments is kinda goofy - comments are one of the main features of blogs, without which venting becomes less meaningful because you don’t get any feedback.
- Her Blogger profile only has her name - no pics, no location (although her blog says she’s in Jersey).
- If you look at her links, they’re all to other Blogspot users with similar blogs… not to say that she shouldn’t link to those with whom she shares common interests, but it’s fishy to me that those are the ONLY links she has.
All that being said, putting myself in her shoes (as well as Steven’s) draws out emotions and makes the blog worth reading for me - check it out and decide for yourself.

Huh…maybe a viral ad campaign, but for what…any movies with a similar plot theme coming up soon? The billboard mentions a joint account, perhaps a bank?
About City Outdoor, I found http://www.greatoutdoornetwork.com/links/partners2.php which says it’s “an independant outdoor advertising company”.
Kinda depressing that someone would go through all this trouble to advertise a product, but I do have good news. I just saved a bunch of money on car insurance by switching to Geico

Some wacky theories I’ve read on the Interwebs:
1) Gawker says CourtTV stunt : http://www.gawker.com/news/advertising/obvious-viral-ad-works-its-crappy-magic-on-both-sides-of-country-188090.php
Also supported by this http://portland.craigslist.org/tfr/176913257.html
2) Preparation H. It’s the only product mentioned in the “blog”.
3) Some sort of Viagra-type drug : so you’re not as “poorly-endowed” as our good friend Steve

Thanks for the links, Rahid. I don’t think the blog is a Prep-H ad as I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t suggest rubbing it on your eyes. Then again… who knows? Hangovers cures are a booming market, after all.
Regarding the Gawker link - does anyone have an invitation they’d like to extend to me for Gawker and/or Lifehacker?

Now that you mention it, the quality of that PI’s video is pretty good isn’t it?

You are correct when you guessed it was not real I just drove past the billboard in the Bronx it has a red band accross it announcing a new show Turns out it is an advertisment for a new detective show on Court TV
