I’m testing out a new way of publishing posts right now, through an extension called Performancing. The tool, which I discovered through Wil Wheaton’s website, allows you to not only publish directly from a convenient AJAXy half-window (leaving room for all of your other tabs on the top half of the screen) but you can create a free account with Performancing Metrics to track your site’s stats. Not that I get a ton of traffic here, but I love studying traffic and seeing which sites people are coming from.

Top half - browser; bottom half - Performancing.

The statistics included in Performancing Metrics are:

  • Visitors, Repeat Visitors, and Search Engines - At-a-glance graphs of who’s coming to your website.
  • Visitors Menu - Allows you to view the following statistics:
    • Visitor Stats
    • Geography
    • Languages
    • Browsers
    • Platforms
    • Screen Resolution
  • Activity - Shows you what’s going on with your blog:
    • Post Views
    • Comments Summary
    • Comments by Post
    • Categories
  • Marketing - If you’re into such things:
    • Adsense Clicks
    • Referrers
    • Search Engines
    • Outbound Links

Interestingly enough, my most visited page today was Hard Gay and Josh Blue; however, most of my referrals came from searches on MSN’s search engine for “Mappy” (and “Mappy the police mouse”).

If you run a blog, I highly recommend this extension for its statistics. It’s good for creating new posts too, but I prefer using WordPress’ backend for creating/editing posts as I have extra WP plugins that Performancing can’t utilize (particularly the Flickr Photo Gallery plugin).

Check Performancing out for yourself and bask in its statistical glory.
